Justin Law was born as an only child to a pair of somewhat poor, devoutly religious muggles in Britain. Being of muggle descent with no previous family members of wizarding blood (well, that he knew/was told of), his childhood was naturally kept magic-free, for the most part (though he still recalls wishing for a religious protestor standing outside of his church to catch fire one summer day as a boy... luckily, the spontaneous combustion was billed by spectators as an act from God himself, so Justin took none of the blame for "wish-starting" a fire). Strict Roman Catholicism was his entire life for 11 years, until that day...

Receiving his Hogwarts letter was an emotional experience for Justin Law as it was for most witches and wizards in his year, though the reasons behind it were quite different from most students'. Hearing their son was a wizard, his parents immediately rejected the letter as some kind of cruel joke; after all, witchcraft was a sin of the highest order in their religion. The evidence was burned.

But, to no avail, letters kept reappearing. Try as they might, Justin's parents could not keep them from showing up. Being a young child, Justin's curiosity piqued- perhaps, if the letters were going to keep coming as they were, God had a mission for him? Justin suggested this to his parents, but he was met with shrieks and yells of disapproval- no God of theirs would EVER approve of the use of magic. Another week of letter avoidance went by before Justin could take it no longer. Perhaps the traditions written in the holy book were outdated. Justin's destiny was clearly to become a wizard; it was God's plan. He could feel it in his heart, no matter how many times his parents threatened disownment. Try as he might, he could not make them understand, so on that day, exactly two days before the Hogwarts Express was set to take off from Platform 9 3/4, he walked away from his home for good, leaving his parents behind to live in their "shame."

Thanks to having to so abruptly become dependent on only himself, Justin has grown up a great deal quicker than the students around him. Though the other students know him to be a kind, helpful, and somewhat eccentric individual with his heart in the right place, they do tend to notice that he lacks the carefree tendencies of most of the other kids his age. While they laugh, play and flirt with one another, Justin spends most of his spare time studying and perfecting the skills with which he will honor God, as well as Dumbledore, to whom he is eternally grateful for allowing him to not only attend the school, but to foster him in such an environment after having to choose wizardry over his parents. Justin's opinion of catholicism has warped over the years, and while he is still deeply rooted in his faith, he tends to be a great deal more liberal with the word, accepting that much of it was written by mortal men- men who could have mistakes (basically, Justin is growing up- he's deciding his faith and tailoring it to fit his life decisions as he goes along; religion is pretty convenient when you're writing the rules!). He honestly believes that magic can be used for good, and that Dumbledore is somewhat akin to a prophet chosen by God, whose will Justin will follow devoutly to uphold the law. His high level of dedication has, in particular, placed him at the very top of his Transfiguration class, where he is currently studying on the side to become an animagus, among other things (but he's keeping that mission between himself and God for now, so shh!). He is also a highly adept duelist with admirable wand skills.

Justin knows his destiny is to become an Auror and use his skills to fight in the name of God, Dumbledore, and all that is righteous, but lately, it seems as if mutterings of Death Eater activity are hitting his ears a bit stronger than they used to. Justin appears genial and law-abiding to those around him, but if the students and teachers knew the thoughts that were beginning to occur more and more frequently within his head, they might not rest so easily in his presence...
